Chapter Eight

When will this end?

An honest answer. Not a reassuring one, an accurate one.

I am not going to give you a precise timeline, because anyone who gives you one is guessing. What I can tell you is what determines the length of the journey, and which of those factors are within your control.

My TSW began in December 2022. I consider myself fully healed from summer 2025. Two and a half years for a case involving hospitalisation, morphine, IV antivirals, mold illness, parasitic infection, viral reactivation, adrenal insufficiency, and hormonal collapse. A relatively fast timeline given the severity. But it was not linear. And parts of it were the darkest experience of my life.

A real recovery arc
DAY ONE DRAINAGE PATHOGENS RESILIENCE HEALED non-linear, but the arc moves up
Drainage opens, pathogens are addressed in order, resilience rebuilds. Months, not weeks.

What lengthens the process

Continuing to suppress
Every suppression pushes the reckoning further down the road and often makes it more severe when it comes. This includes steroids, immune suppressants, and anything that quietens symptoms without addressing their cause.
Clearing without draining
Mobilising pathogens or toxins faster than the drainage pathways can process creates toxic recirculation and extreme flaring. Slow is fast in this work.
Missing the mold piece
People do everything right and plateau. The missing variable is almost always active mold exposure being continuously overlooked.
Ignoring the nervous system
A body in fight-or-flight is not a body in healing mode. Chronic stress produces cortisol dysregulation that actively suppresses immune function and impairs liver detoxification.
Rushing
Moving faster than your drainage pathways can handle, skipping preparation phases, stacking too many interventions at once: this consistently produces more harm than the slower approach. Slow is not a compromise. It is the strategy.
A note on Dupixent and immune modulators

If you are currently on Dupixent or considering it, finding your root cause is not optional. It is more urgent, not less. Dupixent works by selectively suppressing IL-4 and IL-13 signalling, a narrower target than systemic steroids, but suppression nonetheless. It does not resolve the underlying immune dysregulation driving your condition. It manages one pathway of it.

The manufacturer's own data shows relapse rates of over 50% within months of stopping the drug. The drug does not create a path off itself. It creates dependency on itself, because the conditions that were driving your skin in the first place remain completely untouched underneath it.

I am not here to tell you what to do. If Dupixent is giving you a window of function while you find the root cause, use that window. But treating it as a solution rather than a holding pattern is where people lose years. The goal is to understand what your immune system is actually responding to, and address that, so you have a genuine exit.

What accelerates it

Understanding your system and addressing all three pillars simultaneously rather than randomly trying things. Correct sequencing. Relentless drainage support. Working with practitioners who have real, deep experience with this specific picture. And not making the mistakes that cost months of unnecessary suffering. That is the most significant factor I can offer you: a map built from having made those mistakes so you do not have to.

You will not always be able to see progress day to day. But tracked over months, the arc is unmistakable. It moves upward. Always, when the approach is right.
